Dave> Well, I guess SigGraph '95 is all over now, so the big question
Dave> that us non-attendees have (at least I do) is "How was it"??
Absolutely awesome. Totally incredible. Wonderfully
fantastic. What can I say? Wow! :-)
Dave> What were some of the cooler things at the show?
The Waveys were definitely the very best part of SIGGRAPH!
John Gross, Grant Boucher, and David Stipes all did an excellent job
at the podium, although I really don't care much for Penn's humor (or
language for that matter), but his fire eating was rather fun/bizarre
to watch. The Orpheum Theater was an absolutely beautifully restored
theater. The vast majority of finalists' entries were incredible.
Mark Thompson's logo was definitely gnarly, the Countdown animation
by GRID was stunning, and the best of show deserved it (Journeys
of... hmmm, forgot the character's name). One that I thought
deserved an award but didn't get it was an animation of an X-men
-type guy that had laser beams shoot from his eyewear, and then he
did some stunning acrobatics. The whole show went smoothly and the
organizers did a great job. Oh, and the *watermelon* served there
was the best I'd had in years!!! No kidding! Oh, and I finally met
a lot of people that I had been e-mailing for years but never saw
their face, including Andrew Denton, who also taught me to juggle!
Thanks, Andrew!
Dave> How did NewTek stack up to the competition?
The demos reels shown by NewTek were incredibly powerful. Of
course, there were a lot of other really nice demos shown there too,
but NewTek was no slouch, and did a great job.
Dave> How was the show, overall?
An absolute blast. I'm sure others will chime in. Oh, the
3DS "biped" plugin was rather cool. ElectroGig's demo was pretty
cool too. Hash did a nice job selling their tool too.
